Is it time to buy new tires for your vehicle? If your tread is low, you have recently had a flat tire that cannot be patched, or it has been some time since you replaced your tires, then it is probably time. Of course, now you have to choose new tires and figure out which ones are best for your vehicles and the conditions in which you drive. Here are a few tips to help make your search easier.
First, if you’ve had a flat tire and the other three tires on your car are still fairly new, you can usually simply buy a single tire and go on with your day. However, if your tires are showing signs of wear, you may want to replace all – or at least two – of them. If you have not had your tires rotated, for example, your front tires may be showing more wear than your back tires. In this case, replacing the front two will likely be the best course of action.
When you choose new tires, you will have the option of getting summer, all-season, or winter tires. Consider the driving conditions you deal with on a daily basis throughout the year. If your area experiences harsh winters and the summers are not generally very hot, you may want to go with winter tires. If you get a lot of rain and wet conditions, all-season tires will be best. If you live in the tropics, you may want to choose between all-weather and summer tires.
Finally, if you have 2/32” or less of tread on your tires, then legally you have to buy new tires. This is because having less tread than this poses a hazard to yourself and others.
